A town’s refuge
The history of the Castle of Capdepera is closely related to a fortified town which finds shelter in the high walls of the enclosure after the repeated landings and pillages to the region. After all these threats, its construction began in the 14th century on the remains of a Muslim village in a strategic point overlooking the coast and the Menorca channel.
From its towers, the guards used to make visual signals to warn from danger using fresh herbs, thrown over burning embers, to create smoke and communicate the number of boat arrivals with its fractionation.

Adentrarse en este monumento histórico significa revivir aquellas épocas medievales a través de un recorrido por callejuelas y construcciones antiguas aunque perfectamente conservadas.
La entrada al castillo se encuentra en la parte más baja de la colina y el paseo es cuesta arriba hasta alcanzar el punto más alto del noreste donde se encuentra la Capilla de Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. Esta maravilla arquitectónica también es uno de los principales atractivos culturales y turísticos para los visitantes que llegan a la isla, anfitrión de números mercados, ferias y celebraciones típicas de Mallorca.
